This more contemporary/transitional basement is located in a traditional home with many traditional details. This homeowner wished to break ranks and pursue something that was fun, clean, different – party zone meets sophistication.
The goal was to break the space into four sections: work out space (least priority), bar area with casual seating (high priority), game center (always a must), finally let’s kick back and crank up some movies and throw in a media area. The challenge was to be able to separate spaces and identify them, yet keep them all as one.
This was accomplished through commercial plate glass, barn doors, epoxy floors, you know, just your everyday residential type stuff. What really counts most, in the end, is the reaction and emotional stir that the finish space creates with the homeowner. They summed it up with the ultimate compliment, “When we come down here, it’s like being on vacation every day!”
