Remodeling Before & Afters
“My wife Kathy and I have used Owings Brothers on 3 major projects and 2 smaller ones, including two full additions and, most recently, a kitchen remodel. They are excellent, we were just chatting last night, as we plan another project – why would we ever go anywhere else – their professionalism and quality of work gives us a great sense of confidence when we hire them and great satisfaction when the work is done.”
Whole House Remodeling
Modern Style Remodel
Our client purchased a home on a beautiful 7+ acre lot offering mega privacy and a lush landscape. This home built in 1986 had a great layout and was in a perfect neighborhood but it needed to receive a modern style remodel. Place Architecture worked to design the homeowner’s dream and as a team, we remodeled this beautiful new interior!
One goal for these homeowners was to create a home that they could enjoy for many years to come so accessibility was important. Plans for a future project include leveling floors in areas and installing a lift from the garage to the interior of the house.
Renovate Mid-Century Modern
This Baltimore home is a renovated mid-century modern home built in the ’60s. Mid-century modern design was initiated in the middle of the 20th century from approximately the 1940s to the early 1970s. The style came to America based on the Bauhaus style which originated in Germany. During and after World War II Bauhaus architects fled to America due to the changes in Germany. Characteristics of the Mid Century Modern style are functionality, minimalism, sleek geometric forms, as well as, mixing traditional with untraditional materials. A famous architect known for this style is Frank Lloyd Wright using his principles of organic architecture.
Industrial Style Basement Remodel
Our homeowners had a large unfinished space in the lower level of their home but dreamt of a gathering place for family and friends that included a bar, television area, reading corner, home gym, and full bath. They are also world travelers and want a place to show off treasures collected on their travels. The design was created by our team and our designer Angela Smith started working with the homeowner to create a comfortable and up-to-date living space in the modern/industrial style. The homeowners were very open and the team meshed well together each contributing ideas to make the space exactly what the homeowners desired.
Contemporary Interior Remodel
The homeowner wanted the house to be updated to reflect this millennium and their distinctly modern tastes. Owings’ renovations stayed within the footprint of the home and completely altered the look and feel of almost every space in this contemporary interior remodel. One of the more impacting changes was the removal of the wall separating the dining area from the kitchen. This allowed for an innovative and creative focal point of an over-sized aquarium to create a separation of the two areas.
Kitchen Remodeling
Interior Remodel – Kitchen
The family wanted to completely renovate most of their first floor and the kitchen made up the majority of the space with an adjacent living room. This was an interior remodel staying within the footprint of the home. They had a design in mind that mimicked their favorite lake home which was rustic in its style. This Columbia MD homeowner was determined to bring that same look and feel to their primary home. With the help of the designer, Angela Smith, they began creating their desired look by choosing selections to bring the rustic feel to the home’s interior.
Contemporary Interior Remodel
From “stem to stern” this home was redesigned to offer light-filled open spaces with smooth, crisp lines and contemporary products that shine and blend, giving the interior of the home a peaceful, clean expansive feel.
In the kitchen, dated cabinets, tops, fixtures and more were replaced with a large modern island, disappearing coffee bar/ beverage station and pantry. The cabinets are from, Poliform a German manufacturer, and are of the Varena collection. To “top it off” counters were created from Silestone’s White Zeus Extreme and Cemento Suede.
Crownsville Waterfront View
This couple, a New England transplant, fell in love with the beautiful view at this waterfront home. Unfortunately, the kitchen did not offer a view of the water but of the family room wall. Redesigned, the new living space offers scenic views from the kitchen through the family room.
Bathroom Remodeling
Westminster Master Bath Remodel
The homeowner’s desire was to have a master bath that was contemporary yet elegant and functional. The most important element for the design team and contractor was to offer cutting edge technology and this includes a remote control multi-functional toilet/bidet, digital remote shower & tub controls and integrated tablet recesses by each vanity. The various tile surfaces and finishes add design interest, the round accent tile sections above the freestanding soaking tub were hand chosen for color, size, and variation. The wet/dry seat installed in the glass shower wall is a design focal point and also offers space-saving efficiency.
Custom Curves Master Bath
Their master bathroom remodel includes curved shower walls, curved vanities, custom shower niches, floor to ceiling tile, custom shelving and a custom closet system, among other amenities. The transformation is breathtaking!
Custom is the word to describe all that was done in this master bath retreat, which includes everything you could desire.
Reisterstown Master Bath
This Reisterstown master bathroom got a contemporary makeover care of Owings Brothers Contracting. As with many early 90’s homes, a garden tub was a must! However, homeowners now want more space in their bathroom and are swapping a tub for a larger walk-in shower. You can see your bathroom transform just like this contemporary master bath remodel. This home in Reisterstown was no exception. We removed the space-eating tub and a beautiful walk-in steam shower with bench was added, along with a complete contemporary remodel, all within the existing bathroom footprint.
Luxury Modern Bathroom Remodel
This home built in 2000 had a great deal of square footage. The upstairs was roomy and included six bedrooms and six baths but unfortunately, the design was outdated. First and foremost the homeowners wanted to redesign their master suite to suit their style and taste. The scope of work for the bathroom was to demo the entire room and start over creating a luxury modern bathroom. Removing the four Romanesque Doric columns around the garden tub was paramount. Are you living in a dated master suite? Take a look at what our interior design team can do for you.
Additions & Exteriors
Cape Cod Renovation
Most Cape Cod homes have little space to expand for your family’s needs in the 21st Century. Our client’s had a fabulous footprint in their 1950s, five bedroom and three bath Cape allowing our team to create all the desired new living space. By thinking outside the box the team was able to take the old bones of a breezeway, garage, and main living area for an open-concept living/kitchen room with a brand-new screened porch. A beautiful Cape Cod inside, and outside renovation that keeps the integrity of the home.
Maryland Porch-Sunroom Remodel
This cabin in the woods was transformed into a beautiful modern tree-house like retreat for the very happy homeowner. Hardiplank siding with Boral trim was used, Marvin double hung, Magnum windows and a commercial rubber roof to give the home an updated face-lift. The interior was dressed up with a natural slate floor and Perennial wood ceiling to give that rustic look. Finishing this retreat home are amenities such as a very modern Fire Orb hanging fireplace and a cedar wood Home Sauna from Canada.
Barn Conversion to Play Place
The homeowner in this neighborhood was required to maintain the barn’s existing footprint due to stringent building codes. The homeowner wanted the barn to appear original in its form, yet have a more polished look. The revitalized structure contains a golf simulator area, cozy gathering area in front of a stone masonry fireplace, pool table and English pub bar on the second floor. A partial basketball shooting area is located in the rear of the building.
Nana Wall Home Remodel
The inside/outside experience is provided by a Nana Wall, which was installed to expand the small kitchen/dining area, as well as, offer the beauty of the outdoors indoors. The Nana Wall completely open gives space a beauty that only nature can offer. When the wall is closed the beauty is still enjoyed through the complete glass wall. Nana Walls found their use in warmer clients such as; California and Arizona, areas with more of a mild climate year round, but they have made their way east due to the higher demand from homeowners to enjoy their outdoor living space.
Baltimore City Outdoor Retreat
This family has a terrific home in a great neighborhood in Baltimore City. They wanted to enjoy a retreat-like experience in the midst of the convenience of city dwelling, so they began working with Garden Architecture to help them plan. This Outdoor City Retreat is equipped with a top of the line Wolf Grill and beautiful Teak dining table and chairs. They can enjoy the beauty of their beautiful landscaped yard by JB Kline Landscaping and be close to all the Baltimore City amenities. A win/win for all!

Reisterstown Screened Porch
This custom screened porch gives the homeowner additional living space, with the built-in grill and comfortable “living room” like furniture. Also, in the uncomfortable months, spring and summer, when the insects can be a nuisance it provides an open feel from the interior of the home, yet keeps the insects out! Beautiful and functional addition.
New Homes
Custom Home In Carroll County
This beautiful custom home in rural Carroll County is situated on a high hill overlooking horse farms. The homeowners contracted with Owings Brothers for a custom Design/Build project. The team at Owings Brothers began architectural drawings to produce the house that would fit this family’s needs. A three-bedroom cape cod emerged from the earth sporting three dormers, a covered front porch, screened rear porch, two car garage, a finished basement, first-floor master suite with a master bath which includes Carrara marble tops from Rock Tops and Carrera marble tile from Chesapeake Tile, Koch cabinetry and Top Knobs hardware.
Woodbine Custom Built Home
Self-Sustaining Green Home
“Off The Grid” Cottage
This homeowner, an environmentalist, required a house that met their “green living” requirements. The architect designed a 2800 square foot, sustainable custom home with a basement, two bedrooms, one bath, and a carport.
The goal of this project was to help save the environment by use of self-sustaining products and systems. Solar panels are the main source of energy and many materials used on the project are recycled and/or recyclable. A Clivus Multrum composting toilet and greywater system were also installed to further make this cottage “green”. The vegetation of the landscape designed by Natural Resources Design includes a no-mow lawn and plants indigenous to the area, that are being supplied nutrition through rainwater and the irrigation system mentioned above.
New Home and Inlaw Suite
Owings Brothers Contracting appreciates the opportunity to construct new homes. To be a part of the process of taking an empty land parcel and watching the realization of a customer’s desires take form is most gratifying. During the past few years, this homeowner was offered the ability to select from many contractors, and our goal when chosen was to affirm that choice with a product that exceeds the homeowner’s desires and meets their budget requirements.
This particular project came to us from a design/build approach. The homeowner had an extensive wish list that required first-floor living and included: the master bedroom suite, kitchen, and easy accessibility in and out of the home. Due to their concerns with aging in place, special care was taken to address zero thresholds for showers, low thresholds for door entries and slightly wider doors for access in and out of different spaces. Also, the exterior of the home needed to be maintenance free for ease of care.
“From start to finish, working with Owings Brothers on our hall bathroom remodel was a great experience. We really can’t say enough about our experience with Owings Brothers.”
“We had a great experience with all employees and contractors that were involved in our project. Our carpenter, Perry, is a workhorse and did a fantastic job. We love our newly renovated home!”
“Owings Brothers did a great job updating my shower. Tina was very responsive and kept me updated on when the parts were ordered and when the technicians would come by. Thank you!”
